Sit, Walk, Write: Nature and the Practice of Presence

This fall, enjoy a weekend of refuge deep in the North Cascades, with CMI teacher and author Kurt Hoelting, and poet Holly Hughes. Starting each day with sitting meditation, we’ll share poems and nature essays by well-known poets and writers, then explore transforming our own thoughts into inspired words. Outdoors, we’ll enjoy walking meditation, hiking and observations with Institute naturalists to deepen our connection with the natural world. In between, we’ll practice Qigong movement and yoga postures.
Inside Passages July Retreat in Alaska

This five-day, six-night retreat will be based entirely out of Keene Channel Lodge, south of Petersburg, on the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska. It includes daily mindfulness kayak paddles in the vicinity of the lodge. This retreat does not require previous kayaking experience. And does not include camping.

“Mindfulness as Survival Equipment” is an apt metaphor for this journey of the heart. During this weeklong retreat we will be exploring the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska by kayak, while simultaneously opening to the inner habitat of mind and spirit that often gets lost in the busyness of our everyday lives.
